#001: I Want to Know - Unpacking Biblical Concepts Together

We're diving into the nitty-gritty of understanding the Bible in a way that feels real and relatable. Our main focus is to explore the core topics that often get glossed over, especially for those of us who are newer to the scripture.

I, Josh, am learning alongside you, while John, my co-host, brings his wealth of experience reading the Bible multiple times. This podcast is all about asking the questions we might be embarrassed to ask in church and tackling those tricky concepts together.

You can expect a straightforward journey where we break down the barriers to understanding biblical texts, starting with why the Bible is divided into the Old and New Testaments. So, if you're curious about digging deeper into faith and the Bible, you've come to the right place!

Josh Freeman:

Hi, everyone. Welcome to the I Want to Know podcast. My name is Josh Freeman and my co host is John Daniel.

Our goal is to explore the topics of the Bible that people take for granted. Like, I'm new to the Bible. Me personally, John, he's read the Bible numerous times and I always lean on him for questions, advice, I mean, advice.

And I just want to know more about the Bible. That's where we get the name from it. And my co host, John Daniel, let him say a few words.

John Daniel:

Josh, I'm excited to be here, be a part of this endeavor with you. Look forward to this. You and I go way, way back. Just for the audience to give a real quick background to the, the John and Josh show here.

We've been part of each other's lives since Todd.

Josh Freeman:

I think I was six months old.

John Daniel:

Yeah.

Josh Freeman:

When we met, I don't, I can't remember exactly. Do you remember whenever you went to Top town?

John Daniel:

It was. I was.

Josh Freeman:

I mean, I know you don't remember. I guess the best way I could say this. Do you remember whenever your mom entered you into tot?

John Daniel:

Yeah, I was about six months old. So you was probably over a year.

Josh Freeman:

Yeah, I was about a year. So we've known each other for Josh.

John Daniel:

Josh is 48, I'm 47. We met at daycare. There used to be a little daycare here in town back in the 70s.

h, we're from way back in the:

And I'm thankful to have a good friend like Josh. Good friends are hard to come by. So I was super excited when he called me Josh and you asked me about this, this endeavor here.

So I was just wondering, just for the audience's sake, Josh, explain to everybody, you know that phone call after, after my dad passed on that Friday and how we got to this point right here.

Josh Freeman:

Well, you know, I've always known. I've always believed in God. There's no, no doubt in my mind that there is a God.

lieved up until I guess about:

Let me rephrase it, I haven't read the Bible all the way through, but I've tried reading the Bible a couple of times and it wasn't interesting as much. I couldn't get into it because, you know, there's the way it's worded and stuff. It was just hard to follow for me.

and. I don't know. I went in:

That was the first time that I ever actually felt the presence of God. We was building houses and stuff down there, and I think they did more good for me than. And my. I have a cousin named Kevin, and he.

I have to give him some credit, He. He steered me that away to go to that. To go on that mission trip. But anyway, fast forward a little bit. I lost my father.

You lost yours at his funeral. I thought it was the bravest thing in the world seeing you pre or be up there to speak at your dad's funeral. It was. I don't know.

I don't know how to explain that.

John Daniel:

But.

Josh Freeman:

The respect that I have for you made me ask you the question. I was ashamed maybe a little bit. I don't. I don't know. It may be embarrassed because I don't know enough, and I want to know.

I saw the picture of where your dad studied. They called it the holy ground. It did something to me. I don't know. So, I mean, that's the reason why I wanted to ask you.

I trust you more than anything in the world, and you're the one that I want to do it with.

John Daniel:

Well, I'm gonna. I'm committed to you, Josh. I've been for. For 47 years, and I'm committed to be by your side. I was by your side when. When your dad lost.

I was honored to be able to speak. Unfortunately, you know, he got robbed, and y'. All, your family got robbed of the.

The honor that was due your dad and the service he did this community because he died smack dab in the middle of COVID And, you know, everything was shut down.

Josh Freeman:

Terrible.

John Daniel:

Yeah.

Josh Freeman:

But I go see him at hospital. We had to talk to him through the window.

John Daniel:

Yeah, I remember visiting with you in the hospital. And, yeah, I couldn't go see daddy, but I got, you know, could come and visit you. But, you know, we was there together.

I was there with you and was able to. An honor to be able to speak, you know, even the small service that you guys had. But.

But anyway, Josh, all that being said, and, you know, my love for you goes deep and way back, and so I was super excited on that, that Friday morning when you called me and you pitched this idea, you and I both have been involved in our listening to podcasts and fans and sharing our podcast with one another and.

But I'm excited because you have got a fire about you and a desire to learn God's will, and I'm excited about this endeavor because you're not scared to admit, you know, and for lack of better word, and I don't mean this derogatory, but your ignorance toward the Bible.

Josh Freeman:

Absolutely. Because it's.

John Daniel:

And that's an excitement to me, Josh, because I take for granted when I have spiritual or biblical conversations with people that I'll just blow over something to assume that you know what I'm talking about. But you're. You're brave enough and we're good enough friends, you can stop me and say, john, I ain't got.

I ain't got a clue what you're saying, you know, so it causes me to stop and slow down. So that's, you know, for the audience, in a nutshell, that's what this podcast is going.

Josh Freeman:

Absolutely.

Because, like, if a preacher standing up there and he said, God's talking to the Gentiles, well, if there's somebody new to the Bible, new to church, well, what the heck is a Gentile?

John Daniel:

Exactly?

Josh Freeman:

I mean, I have no idea what a gentile is. And then he just keeps and he blows over it, like what you just said, and then you've just lost the new guy. Well, I'm the new guy.

I mean, like I said, I've believed in God. I try to be a good person, this, that and the other.

But the more and more I read and I've just started, I think I'm 51 days into reading the Bible daily. You know, there's some things just by being a good person, you know, that's not getting you there.

So I want to know how to save my soul for my family's sake, for my sake, selfishly as well. But I want to be able to steer my family that away.

And right now, the ignorance that I have toward the Bible is, you know, if you ask me a question, I don't know. Well, let's call John. I mean, you know what I mean? So the. I mean, hence the name of the podcast. I want to know, because I do want to know.

I want to know more and just feels right.

John Daniel:

Well, Josh, I commit to you that I'm not going to just share my thoughts and my think souls and my belief. I want to share with you what the Bible says about whatever question you bring up.

Josh Freeman:

Right.

John Daniel:

So the audience, you can expect nothing but the truth to the best of my ability to go to God's word and answer Josh's questions. We're going to dig deep into some difficult, some simple things and some difficult things all at the same time. Who knows where this episodes may go.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited about it. I can't.

Josh Freeman:

Super excited.

John Daniel:

I can't wait to get. Get further down the road in this. Yeah.

So, you know, this first episode here was just really kind of to introduce ourselves and a little bit of about us and, and what you expect. You know, our intent is to be. This is going to be a very raw podcast. We'll try to do as very little editing as possible and. And we want to.

We want to show you who we are. And we're just two buddies. Two country boys grow up in Lawrence County, Tennessee. Known each other our whole life. I've got.

Got faith that I continue to work on and grow on a daily basis as I try to lead my family and serve my congregation at Chapel Grove Church of Christ. And now I'm trying to. To leave my best friend to the Lord and into an understanding of God's truth. So thank you for joining us, Josh.

Thank you for reaching out to me on this.

Josh Freeman:

We're excited.

John Daniel:

We're going to get this thing kicked off and get it rolling in the next few weeks. We hope to record a few episodes and get these all released back to back or our next episode is going to dive straight into the content, I believe.

What's your first question that you want to talk about?

Josh Freeman:

Well, like me, I want to know why is the Bible broke down between the New Testament and the Old Testament? Like, there's got to be a reason. There's a, there's a break in there.

I mean, if you actually look in your Bible, it's a blank sheet of paper, you know, Old Testament to the left, New Testament to the right. You know, why is it separated that way? I want it to be. I mean, I don't know. We're going to look into it. That's going to be episode two.

I hope to see everybody there. Thank y'.

John Daniel:

All. Sa.
